Mattie loved to work with inventing things. When she was just a young girl she would plan and invent things to help her mother and her two brothers. She began by creating kites and sleds. However, when she began working in a factory to earn some more money for her family, there was an accident. A young girl that she knew was injured by a flying machine part. This would not do. So Mattie took it upon herself to invent something to prevent these flying machine parts. When she got to be older, she invented and patented something that is still used everywhere today and is used in many grocery stores. Can you guess what it is? Read Marvelous Mattie: How Margaret E. Knight Became an Inventor to find out what great invention it was that she made and we still use today.
